Hyper-pigmentation occurs when the melanin in your skin becomes overactive. This condition is characterized by dark spots, sometimes called age spots or liver spots, freckles, pigmented lesions, and darkened areas. It’s a common skin condition for millions of people of all ethnic groups, and may particularly affect pregnant women, the elderly, and people who have experienced severe acne breakouts.
Hyper-pigmentation is difficult to get rid of but Pico Genesis is an effective treatment option. It’s a fairly new, non-invasive, non-surgical laser technology that focuses on the problem areas of discolored skin and quickly treats the effected areas with little to no discomfort. It is sometimes also used for treating wrinkles caused by age or sun exposure.
Pico Genesis can remove skin discolorations without the pain and side effects that other similar treatments cause. Other laser skin treatments can sometimes cause burns and require downtime for recovery. There are various types of hyper-pigmentation from which people suffer.
- Post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation (PIH). This type of discoloration occurs after acne inflammation, psoriasis, burns and lesions.
- Lentigines – This type of discoloration occurs after the age of 60. Individuals may notice liver spots or age spots as they age and often develop from UV exposure.
- Melasma – This type of discoloration happens to pregnant women or people who experience hormonal fluctuations through medication or hormone replacement therapy.
