The HCG Diet Plan is different. What Is HCG?

HCG is Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, a hormone produced during pregnancy that regulates the nutrients given to the fetus to ensure that it develops normally by allowing the mother to use abnormal fats stored in her body for nutrients and energy. (HCG is why a pregnant woman can suffer “morning sickness” while the baby remains unharmed.) HCG is only produced during pregnancy.

HCG’s utility in weight loss was discovered in the 1950s, and today millions of people have used some form of the HCG diet to fight both obesity and the shedding of a few unwanted pounds.

How Does it Work?

With HCG, the body is better able to tap into its stored fat for maximum utilization. We combine this hormonal treatment with a calorie-restricted diet, which makes your body more reliant on the stored fat it already has. With this treatment, your body can burn upwards of 3500-4500 calories (or 1-2 pounds) of stored fat a day!

While on the HCG Diet Plan, you will be taking in only 500 calories a day. While this doesn’t sound like a lot (and is very unhealthy when done without HCG), the HCG treatment actually makes this intake quite comfortable. Many patients report that they sleep better and feel better than they did before they started.

What Can I Expect?

During the HCG diet, you will take the HCG once a day. You can expect to eat 500 calories a day of fruit, vegetables and protein. You may exercise, but we ask that you keep it light; you should attempt no more than a brisk walk. You can follow the program for 4, 6 or 8 weeks, though maintenance and healthy choices after the diet concludes are very important. The HCG Diet works equally well for men and women.

Will I Be Hungry While On HCG?

No. The HCG uses your stored fat so that your body is essentially always feeding. In fact, most of our clients report being satisfied with their intake. HCG releases from 1500 to 4000 calories of stored body fat a day in addition to the 500 that you eat, which keeps you from feeling hungry.

It’s important to know that HCG is a critical component. If you simply eat 500 calories a day with no hormonal supplement, you will suffer from a variety of side effects like nausea, headaches and fatigue. Likewise, your body will think you are starving, and will begin storing additional fat to combat this. HCG is absolutely necessary to make the 500-calorie diet work.

How Do I Keep the Weight Off?

HCG isn’t just a diet; it’s a combination of better eating and hormonal treatment that resets your body’s metabolism so that it doesn’t continue storing unnecessary fat. Once you’re off HCG, of course, you will need to continue making healthy food choices and exercising regularly. HCG provides the clean slate to build the new you.

Should I Have a Doctor Involved In the HCG Diet?

You should always discuss any weight loss programs you’re considering with your healthcare provider.

Are There Side Effects to HCG?

In rare cases, some patients report mild headaches.

Can I Take HCG While Using Birth Control?

Birth control has been shown to be unaffected by the HCG Diet Plan.

When Should Women Begin HCG?

Women should start the HCG Diet immediately after their menstruation cycle or period.

Can Vegetarians Use the HCG Diet Plan?

Vegetarians can use the HCG Diet Plan using our Vegetarian protocol.

Can HCG Be Used While Breastfeeding?

HCG is known to be naturally produced by women during pregnancy and menstruation. You should ask your healthcare provider.

What Can I Eat While on the HCG Diet?

One serving of fruit, two times a day
One apple, one orange, 1/2 grapefruit or six to nine strawberries.

100 grams of lean meat, two times a day

3.0 oz if weighed cooked, 3.5 oz if raw: Beef, chicken breast, turkey, veal, white fish (flounder, sole, wild Chilean sea bass, halibut, tilapia), shrimp, crab or lobster. Remove all visible fat before cooking. Three egg whites and one egg with yolk can substitute as protein once or twice a week.

Vegetables two times a day

Chard, chicory, spinach, lettuce (any kind), tomatoes, beet-greens, celery, red radishes, cucumbers, asparagus, onions, cabbage and fennel.


Water (1/2 to 1 gallon a day), tea of any kind or coffee in any quantity without sugar, though Stevia may be used as a sweetener. (Green tea is a great energy booster that helps burn more fat.) Only 1 Tablespoon of milk per 24-hour period.

2 melba toasts or 2 Grissino breadsticks


We allow and recommend using the juice of one lemon to season. Sea salt should be used every day. Pepper, mustard, vinegar, garlic, parsley, sweet basil, thyme, cilantro, chives and others may be used for seasoning. Use salsa or pico de gallo in moderation. DO NOT use oil, sugar, butter or dressing.
