Major retail and shipping corporations are looking into hiring people in the thousands this holiday season to cope with the consumer demand. In an article by CW39 published on November 19th, they highlight some of the statistics behind working for UPS. In it they say:
“Benefits of a seasonal job with UPS includes:
- Over the last three years, about 35% of people hired by UPS for seasonal jobs were later hired in a permanent position when the holidays were over
- About 123,000 UPS employees – nearly a third of the company’s U.S. workforce – started in seasonal positions.
- Eligible seasonal employees who are students can earn up to $1,300 towards college expenses, in addition to their hourly pay, for three months of continuous employment.
- Permanent UPS jobs – including part-time jobs – come with great pay and benefits, including healthcare and retirement benefits and up to $25,000 in tuition assistance.”
The Dallas Morning News also wrote about this subject in an article published on October 27th. In it they say:
“Amazon, Target and UPS are planning to hire thousands of North Texans as the holiday shopping season looms during a pandemic that’s testing the limits of retailers’ brick and mortar and delivery operations.Retailers have been slow to hire this holiday season as they try to assess how much demand they will need to meet during an unprecedented shopping season, according to global outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc.”
Although the positions are currently temporary, the possibility of staying on as a permanent employee or at the very least getting a contract renewal is always a possibility. ANd if neither of those are long term goals, it’s still some extra cash this holiday season.
