ABOUT botox

Botox is a form Botulinum Toxin Type A that is injected into the skin to temporarily reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles. Once the toxin is injected the muscles that cause the wrinkles are paralyzed so that wrinkles are unable to form from facial expressions.

Advanced Skin Fitness offers both Botox and it’s younger sibling, Dysport. Both paralyze the muscles so that wrinkles are not able to form, but Dysport is reported to respond quicker to the paralysis and muscle weakening than Botox. Dysport’s effects seem to last longer (6 months as compared to 3 or 4), and cost less than Botox. But, because Botox has a higher potency and may be appropriate for more severe applications, Botox continues to be a good choice for many patients.

BOTOX CONDITIONS AND BENEFITS

  • Anti-Aging

A non-invasive medical technique that is designed to slow or reverse the signs of aging. As the body begins to age wrinkles, sagging skin, fine lines and crow’s feet can develop.

  • Angry Look

When parallel vertical furrows form between the eyebrows, the face can have a look of anger or worry. With age the skin surrounding the eyes can begin to wrinkle and create dual lines in
the skin.

  • Forehead Wrinkles

Forehead wrinkles are lines that form in the forehead from age, stress or constant frowning. By making expressions on the face, temporary lines can form and become permanent as time progresses.

  • Deep Furrows

When the skin loses moisture, fine lines and wrinkles can form, which are also referred to as deep furrows. Aging and sun
exposure can cause this problem, because of the loss of collagen in the skin.

  • Crow’s Feet

Crow’s feet are also called laugh lines and form as
clusters of wrinkles around the eyes. Because of the loss of collagen and elastin that develops with age, crow’s feet can become more prominent.

  • Brow Lift

A brow lift is a treatment that tightens and smoothes the
skin by lifting the eyebrows, along with the forehead. The procedure
reduces wrinkles and fine lines in the forehead and gives the face a
more youthful appearance.

  • Frown Lines

Vertical lines that appear between the eyebrows are also referred to as worry lines. These lines are formed from facial expressions and become more pronounced you age.

  • Downturning Mouth Corners

As you age the muscles at the corners of the mouth can pull downwards, giving you a sad appearance. Because of the natural effects of gravity, the corners of the mouth may
droop, but can be reversed with dysport or botox injections.

  • Bruxism

Refers to the excessive grinding or clenching of the teeth. It’s a habitual activity and can occur whether a person is awake or asleep.

  • Teeth-Grinding

A condition that prompts someone to excessively grind or clench their teeth. Most individuals experience teeth grinding in their sleep, but may do so when they’re awake.

  • Under Eye Wrinkles

Wrinkles that develop at the corners of the eyes or under the eyes. As one ages these wrinkles can become prominent with smiling, frowning and laughing.

  • Platysmal Bands

Platysmal bands are characterized by pronounced vertical ridges in the neck muscles up to the chin. As one ages, the neck muscles become more lax and these ridges become thicker.

  • Axillary Hyperhidrosis

Refers to excessive underarm sweating, due to overactive sweat glands. Dysport/Botox injections can help to control the sweating.

  • Botox Lip Flip

A botox lip flip is achieved by injecting botox into the muscles around the mouth. The muscles relax enough to flip the lip outward, while full use of the muscle is maintained.

  • Smokers Lines

Smoker’s lines are lines that develop around the mouth from extensive smoking. The lines are usually in vertical format and normally appear above and below the lips.

  • Wrinkles Around The Mouth

With the progression of age, the skin around the mouth and chin begins to loosen and sag. Collagen production decreases, so there isn’t enough muscle in the face to stop wrinkles from forming.

dallas Botox® treatments at advanced skin fitness

Forehead lines and frown lines are the unfortunate by-products of smiling, laughing, squinting, frowning and every other type of facial expression that causes the skin to wrinkle.  As you age, these lines become permanent and are disturbing to the appearance.  The reality is that the skin loses collagen and elasticity so it doesn’t snap back like it used to.  It could be because you’re getting older or you’ve had too much exposure to the sun.

At Advanced Skin Fitness, although Dysport® is our preferred treatment to prevent facial muscles from forming wrinkles, we still offer old fashioned Botox for those who are stuck on the marketing name of Botox.  Botox, which is another form of botulinum Toxic A, minimizes forehead lines, crow’s feet, smile lines, neck folds and frown lines when injected into the skin. Just like Dysport, it’s safe, convenient, thoroughly tested and FDA approved.  Each procedure is fast and provides effective results.  Although Botox is used to treat a host of physical conditions such as migraines, hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), and muscle spasms, it’s a popular cosmetic solution that will combat stubborn lines and wrinkles to deliver smoother younger looking skin.

We address some of the concerns that patients have for Botox before having the treatment and other purposes for the medicine, by answering some common questions.

What is the difference between Botox and Dysport?

Botox and Dysport are made from the same strain of botulism toxin, therefore the chemical properties are very similar.

Although there are some major similarities between Botox and Dysport, the main difference is the base the toxin is mixed with and delivered to the patient.  Dysport is considered to be more natural because it uses a form of lactic acid as its base while Botox use a chemical base.  Both toxins paralyze the muscles so that wrinkles are not able to form.

How long does Botox last compared to Dysport?

Botox, on average will last about 3 to 4 months before another injection is needed, while Dysport injections on average will last as long as six months, sometimes longer.

Botox is FDA approved to last 90 days but we often see up to 120 days out of an application when dosed appropriately.  Dysport is FDA approved to last 120 days while we often see 5 months of duration and sometimes even 6 months.

Does Botox work faster than Dysport?

No.  Dysport activates faster in the tissue that Botox.

Dysport is FDA approved to activate in 2 – 4 days while Botox takes 7 – 10 days according to its FDA approval.  The reason for this is because the molecule of Dysport is smaller than the molecule of Botox therefore getting into the muscle faster.

Does Dysport work better than Botox?

In our option YES.

This is because the molecule of Dysport is smaller which makes it a superior product in terms of injection.  Because the molecule is smaller than Botox is spreads better in the muscles and requires fewer injections while providing the same or better “hold” than Botox.

What is the cost difference between Botox and Dysport?

Dysport is slightly less expensive per injection and it only needs to be injected 2 – 3 times per year as compared to Botox which needs to be injected 3 – 4 times per year.

On average Botox costs around $10 – $12 per unit and requires around 20 units for an area.  This calculates to around $200 – $240 per area.

Dysport on average cost around $3.50 – $4 per unit but because the molecule is smaller as mentioned before requires more units.  The average are is 36 – 60 units so the price per area is around $126 – $210 per area.  Dysport typically is less expensive per treatment and remember you get treated few times per year so the savings add up.

What is Botox?

Botox is an injectable treatment that cosmetically removes wrinkles, fine lines and crows feet by temporarily paralyzing the facial muscles and preventing new wrinkles and lines from developing.

Botox is a treatment that is performed by injecting botulin toxin Type A into the skin to block the nerve impulses in the face. After the injection, the muscles will be temporarily paralyzed, so frown lines and wrinkles don’t form when you make facial expressions. The technician will inject small amounts of the toxin into the muscles, so the muscles cannot contract and cause the skin to wrinkle. Once patients receive the injection, the muscles will gradually relax and the skin will become smoother with less wrinkles and lines. This treatment is for patients who have are mildly effected by wrinkles and lines. For those who have a deeper and more inset lines in the skin, they may want to seek a more aggressive treatment to reduce the damage.

How long does the Botox injection take and is it painful?

The Botox and Dysport injection treatments both last about 10 – 15 minutes with little discomfort.

Botox is non-invasive so patients should not expect to experience pain. Very fine needles are used to inject the medication, so there’s no sudden spike of pain when the skin is pricked. To minimize any potential discomfort, the area can be iced or numbed with a topical anesthetic before the injection. Acetaminophen can be taken to reduce any discomfort during the treatment.

Are there any side effects or risks related to Botox?

Some patients experience some minor discomfort during and after the injection, but some of these reactions can be alleviated before the procedure.

Botox injections are typically pain free, but some patients may experience dry mouth, injection discomfort, fatigue, headache, neck pain, vision problems and drooping eyelids.

Is there downtime after the Botox injection?

After the Botox injection there is no downtime. Patients should be able to resume their normal routine.

Patients are cleared to return to their jobs or other planned tasks after they receive the injection, but some patients may want to wait a day or so, if by chance they experience some minor scabbing from the injection.

What is the difference between Botox and Facial Fillers?

Botox temporarily paralyzes the muscle to smooth out deep wrinkles and facial fillers fill in areas where the skin has lost volume.

Botox and facial fillers are both injectables that target wrinkles and last for months at a time, but the techniques are different. Botox uses a toxin to block the muscles from forming wrinkles. The temporary paralysis eventually smooths the wrinkles and stops them from developing when the patient smiles or frowns. Facial fillers plump the skin where it has sunken and has loss collagen from aging and weight loss.
