What is Pixel Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Pixel laser skin resurfacing is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that uses fractional laser technology to treat a variety of skin conditions. This procedure works by creating microscopic columns of thermal injury within the skin, which stimulate the body’s natural healing process and encourage collagen production.

During the procedure, a high-energy laser beam is directed onto the skin’s surface, creating thousands of microscopic channels or “pixels” within the skin. The surrounding tissue remains intact, allowing for faster healing and minimizing the risk of complications. The laser energy is absorbed by the water and chromophores within the skin, generating heat and causing controlled thermal injury to the skin.

The treated areas of skin are replaced with new, healthy tissue, resulting in smoother, more youthful-looking skin. Pixel laser skin resurfacing can be used to treat a variety of skin concerns, including fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin texture.

This procedure typically takes between 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the size and location of the treatment area. Patients may experience mild discomfort during the procedure, but topical anesthetics can be applied to minimize discomfort.

After the procedure, patients may experience mild swelling and redness, which typically subside within a few days. Patients should avoid sun exposure and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen for several weeks following the procedure to protect their newly resurfaced skin.

What is the cost of Laser Resurfacing treatment and how many are required?

Typical costs for a full face application is $800 for a single treatment and a series of 3 treatments for $2,100.

What are the risks involved with Pixel Laser Resurfacing and how do they compare to C02 Laser Resurfacing?

Pixel laser skin resurfacing is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that carries some risks, though they are generally minimal compared to those associated with more invasive procedures like C02 laser resurfacing.

The most common risks associated with pixel laser resurfacing include redness, swelling, and temporary pigmentation changes in the treated area. Additionally, patients may experience mild discomfort during the procedure and may need to take pain relievers afterward.

In rare cases, patients may experience scarring, infection, or blistering after the procedure. Patients should also be aware that there is a small risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, particularly in patients with darker skin tones.

Comparatively, CO2 laser resurfacing is a more invasive procedure that carries a higher risk of complications such as scarring, infection, and significant changes in skin pigmentation. The recovery period is typically longer than with pixel laser resurfacing, and patients may experience more significant discomfort and redness during the healing process.

C02 laser resurfacing is a riskier procedure than other forms of skin resurfacing.  It’s generally safe for Caucasian skin but can be especially risky for darker skin.  With any procedure that opens the skin, there is a risk of infection as well as a risk of stimulating an outbreak of Herpes Simplex on the face.  Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation is also a risk for C02 laser resurfacing though this can typically be prevented by pretreatment with hydroquinone.

When will I see results with Pixel Laser Resurfacing?

The timeline for seeing results from pixel laser resurfacing can vary depending on the patient’s individual healing process, the severity of the skin condition being treated, and the extent of the treatment.

Typically, patients begin to see some improvement in the texture and tone of their skin within a week or two after the procedure. Over the next several weeks, as the body continues to produce new collagen and heal the treated area, patients will typically notice further improvements in the appearance of their skin.

The full results of pixel laser resurfacing can take several months to become apparent, as the body continues to produce new collagen and remodel the treated area. In some cases, patients may require multiple treatments to achieve their desired results.

More about our Pixel Laser Technology

Our device uses an Erbium Yag Laser technology that contours and corrects imperfections in the skin caused by aging, the sun, acne and other environment factors by creating microscopic injuries in the skin.

Pixel Laser Resurfacing is a non-invasive procedure that works to correct scarring due to acne, smooth fine lines and wrinkles, tighten sagging skin, revitalize and rejuvenate skin to a younger more vibrant appearance and contour loose damaged skin.

Skin that has damaged by the sun, stretched from pregnancy, pocked from acne, and ravaged by age will appear smoother and refreshed. The treatment is intended to penetrate the skin to a controlled depth creating microscopic injuries and promote the natural formation of collagen. Once the injuries have healed and the collagen has started to regenerate, the skin will tighten, become smoother and have reduced discoloration.

How does Pixel Laser Resurfacing work?

Pixel Laser Resurfacing creates tiny holes in the dermal layer of the skin to deliver heated energy into controlled depths. This process is designed to contour the skin, correct wrinkles, minimize discoloration and tighten loose skin.

The Pixel Laser Resurfacing incorporates a fractional laser technology that heats the skin through the direct distribution of energy. It then creates numerous and contained microscopic holes in small zones of the treatment area. The laser beams are able to penetrate the skin to a controlled depth, so they can treat the area without damaging the rest of the skin. While the area is being treated a small section of the tissue surrounding the openings is abraded and promotes the healing necessary to reduce and eliminate abnormal pigmentation, reduce pore size, minimize stretch marks and tighten the skin.

After the treatment the surface of the skin should appear smoother once the production of new collagen ensues. The area is treated by Pixel Laser to augment the recovery of the tissue. This process improves the outcome of the treatment and reduces any downtime.

How long does the Pixel Laser treatment take?

The treatment can take about 45minutes on average.

The procedure time can vary depending on the size of the treatment area and the severity of the skin damage. Most treatments can range between 15 and 45 minutes for each session. Patients should expect to see quick results and significant improvement in their skin. The collagen reproduction is gradual, so patients should notice continued improvement for up to 6 months. For maximum effectiveness you may want to have 4-6 treatments during those months.

Is there downtime with Pixel Laser?

Pixel Laser is non-surgical and requires minimum downtime.

The treatment is minimally-invasive and is accompanied by a cooling device, so patients don’t experience as much discomfort with the extensive healing afterwards as with other lasers. Some patients may notice minor swelling that subsides soon after the treatment has been performed. But it’s not unusual to experience redness and peeling for 5-7 days.

Is the Pixel Laser Painful?

For most patients, Pixel Laser Resurfacing is only mildly uncomfortable.

Pixel Laser resurfacing is minimally-invasive so patients won’t run the risk of suffering that results from surgical lacerations and deeper lasers such as a CO2. The treatment is very tolerable, with some patients describing it as a light snapping or the pop of a rubber band. The more intense the treatment is for more severely damaged skin and more obtrusive scars, the treatment may be less comfortable. This can happen especially to patients with more deeply embedded wrinkles and pervasive flaws and discolorations from acne and stretched skin.

For these patients the heat may be a more acute sensation. It all depends on how sensitive the patient is to the treatment. If it becomes too uncomfortable, the technician can use topical numbing cream or a cooling device to counteract the intense sensation of heat, most specifically cold air on the treated area. This should curb the discomfort and make the procedure a lot easier to endure.

Is Pixel Laser safe for all skin types?

Pixel RF Resurfacing works for most types of skin.

For patients who are ethnically diverse, skin color varies from fair to very dark, so they are often susceptible to hyperpigmentation, burns or minimal effectiveness when having certain laser treatments. Pixel Laser can be used on most skin types, including skin types 1 – 4.
