If you struggle with cellulite, you are not alone. Although the media, entertainment and advertising industries rarely show cellulite, about 90% of women have it at some visible level. Cellulite affects women regardless of how large or small they are, how much they eat or diet, and how much they exercise.
The anatomical cause of cellulite in the body are fibrous bands of collagen called septae. The fibrous bands in women with cellulite form small pockets of trapped fat. These trapped fat cells become unevenly dispersed causing a dimpling appearance in the skin. It is thought that the propensity toward having these bands is genetic.
Until now, there has not been a long term solution to specifically target cellulite. The most common way to address cellulite has been through treatments that employ mechanical manipulation of the tissue via medical aesthetic devices such as our Velashape 3. These devices incorporate vacuum, massage, and radio frequency heat to reduce the size of these trapped fat cells therefore reducing the appearance of cellulite.
While these methods do effectively reduce the appearance of cellulite, they are less effective at treating the direct cause of the issue i.e., the fibrous bands mentioned previously. Thus, the fat which is disrupted and given a more even appearance by traditional cellulite treatments tends to eventually return to a bulging state due to the bands and the appearance of cellulite eventually returns.
Advanced Skin Fitness has always been the leader in cellulite reduction in Texas. In 2005 the very first cellulite treatment was FDA cleared. This device was VelaSmooth. Advanced Skin Fitness was the first med spa in Texas to purchase this new technology. We traveled to Canada where we could train with the manufacturer so that we could provide authoritative consultations and informed treatments. Some time later, we introduced Velashape 3 which we still use successfully to improve the appearance of cellulite. While our existing lineup of cellulite therapies have provided the best results available in the industry, we have long awaited a more effective and long term solution.
Now a decade and a half later, we finally have an FDA cleared, long term solution for the reduction of cellulite. QWO® is the first and only FDA approved injectable for cellulite. QWO® has been tested in clinical trials and has been shown to reduce moderate to severe cellulite in adult women in the buttocks. <
QWO® uses an enzyme called collagenase to dissolve the fibrous bands under the skin. When injected around the dimpled skin, QWO® gently release fibrous bands, allows for redistribution of the trapped fat cells, and simulates new collagen growth. Results can be seen in one treatment depending on the severity of the cellulite. However, most will need two treatments and in more severe cellulite cases three treatment could be suggested to see a visual improvement that will deliver patient satisfaction.
QWO® can be combined with Velashape 3 for mechanical manipulation of the fat cells to improve the redistribution of fat to improve the appearance and decrease the activation of QWO® treatment. QWO® can also be combined with CoolSculpting. Learn more about CoolSculpting here: Dallas Coolsculpting.
The enzymes injected called collagenases target the structural causes under the skin where cellulite starts. It’s thought the QWO® works by releasing fibrous bands, redistributing fat cells, and stimulating the new collagen growth.
At Advanced Skin Fitness we take pride in providing our patients with a treatment plan that is personalized to their specific goals. To ensure you are a candidate a consultation with an injector will be made prior to treatment. Combination treatments may be recommended to give you the best result possible.
During your consultation your injector will examine the severity of your cellulite and provide you with a treatment plan. Each treatment visit may include up to two treatment areas. QWO® injections will be given three weeks apart for a total of two or three treatment visits.
The prices range from $700-$1,200. Discounts may be available for purchasing multiple areas or combing treatments with other procedures.
Some patients notice less dimpling after a single treatment with QWO®. However, most patents see improvement approximately three weeks after their second injection.
You can expect QWO®’s results to last up to one year, but clinical studies show these results may last much longer. There are no other non-surgical treatments as effective for cellulite reduction.
The most common side effect is injection site bruising and tenderness. In clinical trials, no post-treatment downtime was required.
Are there any other cellulite treatments like QWO® on the market?
No. QWO® is the first FDA-approved injectable for moderate to severe cellulite.
