What Is Sculptra?

Sculptra is a different kind of injectable filler product. HA dermal fillers and have traditionally been the most safe and reliable product for diminishing and eliminating loss of volume which leads to the appearance of depressions in the face and buttocks, fine lines/wrinkles, and deep folds. Sculptra is completely different because it causes the body to create its own collagen, making it a “volumizer” instead of a filler. Sculptra is injected into areas of concern just like a filler but moving forward there is nothing similar about the process of creating new volume.

Sculptra is made of a product called poly-L-lactic acid crystals.  Typically, we use a hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal filler that are synthetic forms of sugar that our bodies use to lubricate and hydrate within our bodies.  Poly-L-lactic acid is a biocompatible, biodegradable material that has been used for decades in dissolvable surgical sutures and soft tissue implants.

Sculptra is injected deep below the skins surface.  Usually in the face or buttocks, the body slowly absorbs it. Over the next five to six weeks, Sculptra crystals stimulate collagen production deep in the foundation below the skin near the connective tissue that holds your skin in place.  This leads to a stronger structure and more support.  Think of it as scaffolding holding out your skin and holding it up in place as it were when you were younger.
