Microneedling with Radio Frequency, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, can have multiple benefits such as improved sin texture and tone, reduction in appearance of fine lines, acne scars, and stretch marks, skin tightening, prevention of signs of aging, and reduction in discoloration. This innovative procedure utilizes tiny microneedles to create small micro-wounds in the skin. These wounds lead to the production of collagen which then heals the skin and supports rejuvenation. Most patients typically require a minimum of three treatments three to four weeks apart.
The addition of radio frequency with our microneedling treatments boosts collagen production more than microneedling alone. While the tiny microneedles are penetrating the skin, the radio frequency emits heat, causing fibroblasts to activate, promoting the healing process and resulting in even more collagen production. Not only does the heat from the radio frequency help to restore skin to its former youthfulness, it also helps to firm and tighten in those areas which could use a little bit of a lift. Although we can perform the treatment without radio frequency, the best results are achieved by combining both technologies.
The beauty of microneedling is that almost any patient is a candidate for the treatment. We use different settings to target different areas of concern for each patient, making this a customizable, individualized treatment. Patients with current acne, psoriasis, or rosacea may not be good candidates for this treatment, but patients with these conditions may schedule a complimentary consultation to determine how we can work with your individual needs.
Microneedling with RF is typically not a painful procedure and is well tolerated by most patients. Prior to the treatment, we apply a thin layer of numbing cream to help with any discomfort. During the treatment you will feel a little pressure and heat as the technician passes the handset over the treatment areas. After the numbing cream has taken effect, the treatment will take about 15-30 minutes.
Treatments can range from $250-$500 per treatment, depending on the area being treated, the individual patient’s needs, and the facility where the treatment is performed.
Microneedling with RF requires little down time. Typically a patient will have some redness, small pinprick bumps, or swelling. This subsides in a few days as the healing process begins. We do ask that women refrain from wearing makeup until the day after the treatment. Most patients begin to see firmer rejuvenated skin in about a week with scars being less apparent and minimized discoloration, but because this is a treatment that builds collagen, full results may become evident from one week to six months after the initial treatment as the skin heals and continues to produce collagen.
To receive the most benefit from microneedling with RF, many patients choose to pair this treatment with PRP, or platelet rich plasma, to support even more rejuvenating benefits. Others also choose to pair microneedling with RF with our HydraFacial MD treatments prior to receiving the Microneedling treatment.
