Taking a cold bath early in the morning for work can be a drag and a cause for unwanted sneezing. And so a lot of people opt for a hot shower instead. Hot shower is likewise chosen over a cold shower after a long day and relaxation is needed. However, studies have shown that taking a hot shower frequently and even just a few times can have a negative effect on our skin. While it is true that there are some good reasons why a hot shower should be taken, there are also reasons why it shouldn’t be taken. Here are 3 reasons why hot shower should be avoided so as to protect your skin:
- Complicate Skin Balance
Hot shower can strip healthy oils from your skin and disrupt the natural balance of your skin. By dramatically drying out the skin, your skin is stripped of natural moisture and hence, becomes prone to irritation and infections. Furthermore, hot water is also known as culprits that damage capillaries underneath your skin. This makes your veins appear more and create an imbalance in your complexion and skin appearance.
- Aggravate Existing Skin Conditions
Apart from eliminating healthy oils that make your skin radiant and youthful, hot showers can also aggravate already existing skin problems such as eczema, rosacea, and psoriasis. Since hot showers can weaken the skin and damage its natural barriers, it can worsen your irritation, allergies, infections or even wounds. It will then become very difficult for you to deal with your now heightened, inflamed and irritated skin. Not only will it make it hard for your skin to recover but also lead to sensitive skin.
- Activate Acne Breakouts
Since a hot shower strips your skin of the healthy oils, this inevitably results in serious dryness of the skin that triggers sebaceous glands to produce more sebum. As we all know, excessive production of sebum is highly discouraged since it leads to acne breakouts. Without moisture to properly balance the skin, acne can also get really bad especially with continuous hot showering.
