4 Unhealthy Lifestyle: What it does to your skin

Our lifestyle plays a huge role when it comes to our skin. What our skin looks like and feels like can be traced from our daily activities, diet, routines and habits, whether they are healthy or not. While it is easy to ignore and take for granted the healthy lifestyle, a lot of people are actually unaware of how unhealthy lifestyle can impact our skin. More so, they are unaware of the unhealthy lifestyle that they do everyday. It is important to know these unhealthy lifestyles because these will most certainly have a negative impact on our skin in years to come.

Smoking

The disadvantages and dangers of smoking are quite known already and they are hardly news to anyone. However, most people are only aware of the problems that involve the overall health of the body or more particularly those involving the internal organs. What they don’t know is that this unhealthy lifestyle  also leads to poor skin health.

This Is because smoking contains chemicals that reduce the oxygen in blood and this leads to less production of collagen and elastin. Most skin problems that are rooted from smoking include wrinkles, fine lines, and skin sagging. Additionally, smoking is known to cause premature skin aging as well.

Lack of Sleep

Your body needs to have a beauty sleep regularly because it is one of the best ways of making your skin healthy and look young and radiant. Needless to say, sleep is a natural process and a very important one because it is the only time where your body can naturally repair everything in your body, including your skin! So sleeping less obviously means that your skin won’t be able to repair itself fully.

Of course, lack of sleep also leads to less production of collagen and causes premature skin aging. Moreover, lack of sleep tends to highlight imperfections on your skin and even produce dark circles under the eyes. Lastly, sleep can be attributed to more stress which will be a different category of an unhealthy way of living.

Poor Diet

Having a poor diet is a huge factor that can negatively impact our skin. Our diet is the main contributor to our overall health. This of course includes skin health which depends primarily on what we eat and drink. When we take foods that are high in sugar, our skin becomes dry and existing skin conditions can worsen. Eating oily foods naturally leads to more acne. Some foods contain chemicals and preservatives that affect our hormones and slow down skin recovery and even collagen production.

It is very important that we watch the food that we eat. Fruits and vegetables are always encouraged and recommended because they contain natural ingredients that benefit our body and skin. Including fish in your diet will also be very beneficial because it contains omega-3 fatty acids which helps the skin stay moisturized and supple. Additionally, it has zinc which encourages skin cell production and skin recovery.

Too much Stress

While being stressed may be a normal part of our lives, it is important to relax, eat healthy, sleep a lot and exercise because stress is actually an unhealthy way of living that has a negative impact not only on our bodies but also on our skin. This is because it produces a hormone that encourages sebum production. As a result, skin becomes more oily and acne increases. Additionally, stress can lead to skin rashes, blisters and prolong skin recovery. Worse, it can also lead to certain skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and rosacea.
