Acne inflammation may be one of the most inconvenient, not to mention painful, skin conditions. Pimples, blackheads, cysts, and whiteheads on the face, back, and arms can be debilitating and leave you feeling insecure. Fortunately, there are some non-invasive, painless, and speedy solutions for treating this skin condition and preventing flare-ups.
Depending on the seriousness of your condition and the amount of skin rejuvenation needed, Advanced Skin Fitness is proud to offer various levels of Blue Light, Blu-U, and ClearLightTM acne therapy treatments. Both Blue Light Acne Therapy Treatment and Blue Light with Photodynamic Therapy with Levulan® are effective at killing the p. acnes bacteria that causes acne. The p. acnes bacteria are destroyed by a laser light, whereas the Blue Light with Photodynamic Therapy with Levulan® is a multi-step process that provides long-term efficacy.
During treatment, a UV-free blue LED light bulb emits a wavelength of therapeutic light that targets and kills acne-causing bacteria. The prevention of new acne happens after the light penetrates the skin. Blue LED Light is a safe treatment for mild to moderate acne, but it is not recommended for people with lupus, who are breastfeeding, have epilepsy, or who are photosensitive. In 3 to 4 weeks, those who are treated with Blue LED light can see visible results.
How Long Does Blue Light Treatment Take To Finish, and How Many Sessions Do I need?
It takes about 25 minutes to complete the process and 8-10 treatments are required. The following 8-10 sessions should be done twice a week over a four to five week period.
Is It Painful?
Although the procedure is painless, patients may experience a slight warm sensation around the treatment area. It has a comparable feel to a tanning bed.
Are there any side effects from using the Blue Light?
Although there are no common side effects after the therapy, a patient may develop some redness similar to a sunburn in the treatment area. The redness should fade over time. If Levulan® is used, patients should avoid ALL sun exposure for at least 48 – 72 hours after the treatment to avoid irritation.
