How to Prevent Spider Veins and the Best Non Surgical Treatments

Admit it, spider veins are a nuisance. The thin red and blue broken capillaries can appear from out of nowhere near the surface of the legs, thighs, calves, ankles and the face. They can be unattractive and uncomfortable, causing aching, heaviness, itching and night cramps. Sometimes they  become so distressing, that those whose suffer with the condition often seek out treatment to remove the broken vessels. With non-surgical solutions available, it helps to know that there is a way to remedy the situation, but what if spider veins could be prevented altogether?

For those who are concerned about getting varicose or spider veins, you should keep the weight down. Being overweight or obese can result in the development of spider veins. The heavy weight puts an extreme amount of pressure on the veins. You can also get them by standing or sitting for long periods of time, since these positions require the veins to work more to pump blood to the heart. And avoid sitting with your legs crossed or bent for an extended amount of time. The sun can cause spider veins to develop on the face, so beware of too much sun exposure.

Unfortunately for some, spider veins are inevitable. Even with preventative efforts some people will develop spider veins at some point. These are a few reasons. As people age, the valves in the veins may weaken and not function as well as before. Some people are born with weak vein valves, which are most likely inherited. Hormonal changes  like puberty, pregnancy or menopause can also result in spider veins.

The reality is, once you get spider veins, they don’t normally go away on their own, so having vein removal will be your best course of action. When considering treatment, surgical procedures like vein stripping can cause bruising, nerve injury and the reappearance of the spider vein.

The best solutions are non-surgical laser treatments like Candela Gentle YAG, which uses a light beam to heat and dissolve the vessels. There’s little risk or discomfort, so it’s a highly recommended treatment.  Scholerotherapy is another option. This procedure involves injecting the veins with a salt solution, which causes the blood vessel lining to thicken, the blood to clot and eventually cause the scarred tissue, that was once the blood vessel, to fade.
