ABOUT Platelet rich plasma TREATMENTS

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy is a non-surgical skin repair method that uses a growth factor and the patient’s blood to rejuvenate skin. When used for the face, it is also known as a “Vampire Facial” and involves using hyaluronic acid fillers and extracted platelets from the patient’s own blood. A nominal amount of blood is taken from the patient and placed in an apparatus that divides the platelets from the blood. The fillers and platelets are injected into damaged areas of the skin. Once the platelets are injected “growth factors”, which are proteins that repair damaged tissue, stimulate the cells to build more collagen and smooth out the wrinkles in the skin. The skin will have more volume, elasticity and a youthful improved texture. The skin will also begin to tighten and become stronger.

Platelet Rich Plasma THERAPY - A POWERFUL TREATMENT WITH MANY APPLICATIONS

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy,  can inject more Life into the skin
Procedures for repairing skin affected by aging and sun exposure are becoming more of a demand. Because skin conditions like sagging, wrinkles, fine lines and scars are a recurring problem for a large percentage of the population, there are a variety of treatments available for correcting skin imperfections. At Advanced Skin Fitness we offer many treatments for damaged skin. One, in particular, is called Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). It rejuvenates the skin so that damaged tissue can be improved by stimulating the skin to build more collagen. What makes this treatment especially unique is that we use the patient’s own blood to treat problem areas of the skin.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy is non-invasive and supports the concept that the aging process can be reversed with the body’s natural ability to heal itself. When growth factors are failing to perform at the optimal level to stimulate proper cell growth, using platelets from the patient’s blood to encourage more cell growth is a highly effective solution. PRP Therapy has been successfully used to treat sports related injuries, along with other medical uses to aid in healing, especially post-operative procedures. Because of its effectiveness, it was developed as a cosmetic treatment that is now highly requested by celebrities.

It’s important to understand that it’s a safe procedure and especially effective because the patient’s own blood is used for the treatment. It’s ideal for skin damage caused by photo-aging, acne, scarring from surgery and volume loss. Injections are typically done around the eyes and cheeks to firm sagging skin and fine lines. The neck, hands and upper arms are common problem areas that are often treated. It’s also a suggested treatment for women who have lost some skin laxity after being pregnant and it’s a fantastic treatment for stretch marks.

We try to address some general questions that patients may have about the treatment, the process, possible side effects and how long they can expect the treatment to last.

What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy and how does it work?

PRP Therapy is a skin repair method that uses a growth factor and the patient’s blood to rejuvenate skin.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, is a non-surgical skin repair system that uses hyaluronic acid fillers and extracted platelets from the patient’s own blood.

For scarring, the treatment can promote healing and overall healthy skin.

How long does the Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy treatment take?

Each treatment requires about an hour for the entire process. Most of this is time to allow the numbing cream to become effective.

The first part of the process involves using a centrifuge to separate the platelets from the blood, which takes about 9 minutes for extraction. While the blood is processing the application of topical numbing cream goes to work to alleviate most or all of the discomfort. The injection of platelets takes about 10-15 minutes.

Is the Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy painful?

The treatment is virtually painless.

Although the injection is not generally painful, patients who are especially sensitive can have a topical anesthetic applied to the injection area.

Are there side effects associated with the Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy?

There are no side effects, but depending on the patient, minimal irritation can occur post-procedure.

Some patients can expect slight swelling, redness, itching and bruising around the injection site. The irritation should subside in a day or so. The bruising should no longer be evident after a few days. One advantage to using the patient’s blood is that there’s a low risk of infection for the patient, since it’s their own cells that are injected back into the body.

PRP For the Face – also called Vampire Facials

A traditional facelift is surgical and the PRP Therapy for the face, is a non-invasive treatment.

Facelifts are known to involve cutting and pulling the skin to minimize wrinkles and sagging. The PRP Treatment is able to achieve this result by injecting platelets into the damaged areas of the skin and triggering the natural process of collagen production to occur. Once new cells begin to grow, the lines and wrinkles will diminish and eventually reveal smooth, healthy skin. The process is mild and requires no downtime with a minimal amount of healing, unlike a traditional facelift, which could take weeks to recover.

Patients who have sagging skin that has become too loose to be effectively treated with the PRP therapy might want to consider a surgical facelift.

How long does it take to see results from the Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy?

It could take a few weeks to see results, but once they’re evident, the outcome is amazing.

Depending on the patient and the severity of the skin condition, it could take more than 6 weeks before the patient notices the skin rejuvenation working.

How many treatments are required and long will effects last?
PRP Treatment is typically recommended in a series of 2 – 3 sessions, each spaced about 4 – 6 weeks apart. Each Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy treatment last for about 9 to 18 months.

Having the procedure done every few months after your initial series of treatments will help to prolong the effects of the treatment.
